Since 1 March 2012 Jimmy Jamar has taken office as the Head of Representation in Brussels. Previously, he was the Head of the Commission Representation Office in the Netherlands. His entire professional career has focused on communication and in particular on ways to strengthen links between the EU institutions and the European citizens. He launched several innovative projects such as the European SME Week, the Netd@ys, the Youth on the Move campaign and the European Job Day. He was also responsible for two European Years: Lifelong Learning in 1996 and Workers’ Mobility in 2006. .Since joining the European Commission in 1994 he has worked successively in the Directorates General responsible for Education and Culture, Press and Information, Research and Innovation, and, from 2005 to 2011, Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion. Before joining the European Commission, Mr. Jamar studied Law and International Relations at the University of Louvain, the College of Europe in Bruges and the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva. He then spent 10 years at the College of Europe as an assistant to the Rector and Director of studies. He also obtained a scholarship at the Johns Hopkin’s School of Advanced International Studies in Washington D.C. and was a Jean Monet Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence in 1988-1989.In 1989, he joined Coopers & Lybrand (now PriceWaterhouseCoopers), where he spent five years on the management of the Euro Info Centre network, a tool aimed at facilitating the participation of small and medium-sized businesses in EU programmes.Mr. Jamar’s experience in communicating with citizens and the media found a new impetus in 2013, with the European Year of citizens, where he has initiated a series of citizen dialogues between EU Commissioners and the public on topical EU matters. He is now one of the coordinators of the European Solidarity Corps.
